Blues Control‘s quiet epic Valley Tangents (Drag City) was a sleeper hit of last year, with the group’s normally bombastic groove-rippin’ combination of guitar, piano and tape loop, taking a mellower, more reflective, ehtereal and (dare say) jazzy tempo, perhaps mirroring their transition from nycity kids to upstate homebodies. Meander in quixotic currents as the flighty piano arpeggios, burly gutter riffs and plodding tape drum create a strange, unsettling space inside your skull. The duo are currently on an epic tour around the country promoting their new album. No return Boston show yet, but let’s hope they keep us in mind.
