The incredible Portland OR via New Zealand cosmic pop group Unknown Mortal Orchestra are back with a new LP, courtesy of JagJaguwar, and it’s damn good! Unknown Mortal Orchestra II has the same sweet, dreamy, funked up and slightly mysterious qualities as their outstanding 2011 self titled debut on Fat Possum but it sounds like the band is maturing into another phase for sure. I look forward to listening to this over and over again, trying to figure out just what it is about these guys that drives me wild. It could simply be the genius combination of catchy, laid-back funk jams that are dripping wet with ethereal vibes, but that’s just my immediate notion. There’s a whole lot going on in there among that beautiful space they create. It definitely takes some time to wrap your head around but it is time well spent, I assure you. If you appreciate cohesive batches of super catchy burners with lo-fi soul and garage decoration then perk up your ears and start following the UMO. Here are a couple tracks from the new record, sure to put you in a happy place this Saturday afternoon.
