The amazing Boston based electronics and percussion duo known as TAPS have released a second tape called, TAPS 2. The humdrum of the tape’s title is in no way evident in the sounds found within it. This duo of Chris Strunk on percussion and Brendan Murray on electronics have a masterful grasp of creating suspense in their music. Building tension, letting it vent, building again, and all free of cliche and done using the unearthly sounds coaxed from their respective instruments. The gamut run here is from ambient music to an almost techno. Two side long tracks that I have and will be listening to a lot of! “Side One” is a churning industrial sounding clatter that ebbs and flows, reaching noisy heights and dropping down to strange subterranean lows of barely there synth and the brilliant percussive patter of Mr. Strunk. A band to behold, live or on record. A Boston treasure. Out on the very interesting locals label Individual Lines.
