ST DAD

by

Writing this review is a bit self-serving, since I – MOON MACHINATION – released the LP along with VINYL RITES and 16oh RECORDS last year, but it flew mostly under the radar so it’s once again time to hype up the insanity that is ST DAD. ST DAD is a now defunct 4-piece band from Gainesville, Florida whose discography includes a demo tape, split tour cassette with SHREDS, and a 7” – all available to download on their blog. In trying to sell records, my go to description of the band has been: it’s like THE CRUCIFUCKS covering THE RAMONES and recording it on a boombox. This, of course, doesn’t do ST DAD justice. Driven by vocals both snotty and demented and highly distorted and feedback laden guitar, they craft punk songs somewhere between stupidity and genius. True cretin punk. As the description from VINYL RITES says, “you’re welcome, world, you probably didn’t ask for it.” The LP – recorded in a house BO DIDDLEY once lived in – is still available from all three labels. Streaming below is the unmastered version of the album.
