ROLAND TINGS – Tomitas Basement/Cagean Sea

by

Melbourne has been getting a lot of attention lately for their energetic garage rock scene, but what about the club kids? Find the answer in ROLAND TINGS, an organic synth beat rambler for the today’s twisted ears. This sequencer-centered acid house devotee crafts pounding hyperactive rhythms with a Hi-NRG feel. Exquisitely funky synths squirt off the walls while slinky bass synths bounce against crisp hand claps and cowbells. Ting has two releases from the mutant house masters 100% Silk and now a single from Club Mod (a Modular electronic offshoot) – ‘Tomitas Basement/Cagean Sea,’ a vigorous and satisfying freakbeat workout. The excellent Maximillion Dunbar and Jeremy Greenspan each rework a track, adding spaciousness and a ton of sub-bass to these frenzied lysergic excursions. Overall, Roland Tings’s compositions ride that fine balance between stimulating, articulated complexity of composition and a nonchalant looseness of style that stays fresh, never stolid.
