Like his 100% SILK label-mate ITAL, Michael Morrison aka OCTO OCTA produces some of the most exciting, forward leaning dance music out there. But where his compatriot stradles the edge of structure with wild noisey compositions, Octo Octa maintains a steady beat; only minimal touches of filter and effects accent that pulsating house rhythm. Creative use of percussion add a spicey variety of clattering congas and shimmering hi hats, while the thumping bassline compells you forward, insistent without being aggressive, inviting you to shake loose. Last year’s ‘Oh Love‘ was a laid back affair, melding warm crunchy dreamy house beats and ebulliant dub serenades to hazy narcotic effect. ‘Work Me,’ the first single from his upcoming full length Between Two Selves (100% Silk), makes a bold yet inevitable and welcome turn towards the club banger, with a full house sound, bass crashing forward into a bed of silky synth. Come see him play Boston this Friday – more info HERE.
