SLOVENLY records is kind of like the crazy old homeless guy at the beach with a metal detector, they have a grand appreciation for shit that has been discarded and forgotten about and this record is the perfect example of that. While Pete from SLOVENLY was on tour in Europe with BAZOOKA and GAY ANNIVERSARY, someone played him a pirated cd of songs by Komodina 3. Komodina 3 were/are not a band anymore, and they were really hardly a band in the first place. In 2005 after recording some songs, they got booked a show. They decided not to show up to play because it was too cold out, which I find totally admirable, the last thing I want to do in the winter is lug my amp from space to car to show, etc etc. Turns out that having a piss poor attitude (and having some seriously incredible songs) paid off on the long run because this album, by the band that never was, is now out on SLOVENLY. Going back to talking about garbage…this thing IS garbage, the kind of garbage that makes me overjoyed that there are still bands out there that completely prove that you don’t need a fancy recording studio, to care too much, or even give much of a fuck at all to play music. Sometimes it works, and when it does it is a strangely beautiful thing. What I like the most about this band is that there really isn’t anything about their sound that relates to a particular time period, scene, whatever. Punk slop accented with the occasional farfisa, maracas, or whatever else was lying around, this sound is both timeless and disgusting. Thank you, Slovenly, and please don’t ever stop digging through the trash.
