Behold NO HIGHWAY/BLACK VACATION, a hulking beast of low and heavy primordial rhythms, oozing sinister psychedelic vibes – summertime narcotics in sonic form. Co-released by NO-FI Recordings and Sound of Cobra, this split brings together California’s ENSEMBLE ECONOMIQUE (Brian Pyle of Starving Weirdos, RV Painting) and Italian duo HEROIN IN TAHITI to create this demented trip to Fantasy Island. Ensemble Economique’s side steams with slow-burn droned rhythms of meditative pulsating riffs like an electric oil pouring into a turbulent, churning sea of reverb. Heroin in Tahiti continues this dark, brooding atmosphere, incorporating exotic bird calls and hazy psych riffs into haunting loops, punctuated by heavy synth bass that lurks in the periphery like a black panther stalking its prey. A beautiful, deranged journey to the tropics – for lost summer days and stiflingly humid nights.
