Very much into this new slice of drifting and woozy dream pop from Boston’s own EMILY REO. It’s called “Happy Birthday” and it arrives via her bandcamp and comes from a comp called ELESTIAL SOUND. The tune is a fractured take on some 5os doo-wop ballad, veering away each time I thought I knew where it was going, but never removing itself too far from the gentle sway that makes it special. A shimmering piece of dream pop with a mellow electronic backdrop; a little bit retro, a little bit modern, and apparently the first taste of Ms. Reo’s next album due out sometime in late summer.
