Flykills is a newish NYC punk group, featuring 3/4ths of the legendary St. Dad. The demo features four tracks that make St. Dad sound high fidelity, but the tracks have since been rerecorded along with a number of new tracks for an upcoming release of some sort. The demo keeps the ultra snotty punk of their previous band, with Gustavo’s demented vocals that harken back to the Crucifucks, but drop the distorted and destroyed guitar sound in favor of a cleaner tone. The result sounds like a less melodic version of The Kids or a mix of Jay Reatard and Crazy Spirit. What really makes Flykills stand out is the vocal delivery, and how the guitar builds around it, creating something immediately catchy. Shows currently seem to be pretty sporadic, and there’s no set plans for any new releases, so keep your eyes peeled for more from this band down the road.
