Firing Squad have released the best demo so far of 2015. This band out of Richmond, VA features members of Cretins and Violent Outburst, and continues the style of those bands while making the overall product nastier and more aggressive. Usually compared to Discharge, Firing Squad sounds like USHC first and foremost. Honestly, they sound more influenced by Swedish d-beat than by Discharge directly. Beyond the d-beat influences, think a better version of Boston hardcore or late ’80s beatdown Think SSD. Unlike a lot of hardcore punk these days, Firing Squad doesn’t weakly try to incorporate experimentalism or go in for the trendy new sounds; they execute a classic, no-frills style of hardcore and do it perfectly. It is impressive to hear a band sound this powerful and fully developed on the first demo. A 7” is in the works, hopefully by the end of the year.
