Over the last six months this self-titled album released on Craniophagus Parasiticus Records gradually became one of my most played records of 2016. It’s a grower and a shower. Trashy and stupid, Michigan’s Farting Corpse push noisecore into indecipherable, degenerate noise reminiscent of the earliest Anal Cunt 7”s or even the accidental power electronics sound of Dead’s classic Musical Abortions demo. Rather than stop-starts or cut-ups, Farting Corpse throws a nearly continuous barrage of clatter and claustrophobic clamor at listeners that is infinitely closer to power electronics – or, maybe, melted gorenoise – than it is to traditional grindcore. Not for the faint of heart, or music lovers, this is a slab of unerring putridity. Electronic noise madness, buried vocals, and drums occasionally cohering into blast beats fight for your attention. And they will not be ignored. The density side A opens with slowly unravels into shitnoise grind breakdown balladry before side B picks up more caustic than ever with a sound worthy of the best of Japan’s harsh noisecore.
