“Heartbreak Kid” is the teaser track for Face The Rail’s upcoming second album, Learning To Die, coming out soon on the Katorga Works label. Face The Rail are a largely unappreciated Bay Area band featuring members of numerous other Bay Area bands, and playing a vaguely surfy brand of skate punk. Think a slightly DC-sounding JFA playing on the beach. More importantly, they are one of the best live bands around. Some of the bands more melodic hardcore tracks are reminiscent of local heroes Libyans. The 7” and 2011 tour tape both offer numerous classics – “No More Tears,” especially – so if past performance is any indicator, jump on this new record immediately. “Heartbreak Kid” is a strong example of what you can expect from FTR, and continues the level of quality they have displayed so far. The band is currently finishing up their tour in support of the LP, so if you haven’t already missed them, don’t. [UPDATE: tour postponed until the spring] For you local folks, past show(s) at the Frat Cave in Waltham were classics, the first one anyways, and was one of the highlights of that venue.
