I don’t know a lot about Earthly Circuits, other than that they are an ensemble from Montreal – although members may or may not be spread out all over – masterminded by musician/filmmaker/artist Kevin Sullivan and making some of the most out of leftfield pop music around. Fallow Medals, the band’s second album, released in August as a digital album and coming later this year on PRTY NGG! The album’s sound is a mixture of baroque pop, ambient, and elements of minimalism a la Philip Glass. Glass’s poppy 80s tracks are a solid frame of reference, or even a more orchestrally melodic version of the music of Irene Moon. The songs sound like they were composed and performed by a group of music school graduates, but keep it odd and challenging enough to fit in with Boston’s, for example, underground scene. There really nothing to do but dig in.
