Ari Shvartsman is a big name around these parts: as former managing editor of Film Flam here at the Hassle, he is, quite simply, the reason you’re reading this right now. Add to that his recurring Cine-Thoughts column and his work with the Coolidge Corner Theatre, and you will realize that the man’s taste is beyond reproach. So when Ari Shvartsman curates a film night, y’all best sit up and take note.
In celebration of Killer Maples, the new production from Yelling Man Theatre, Ari is programming a double feature of cult horror batshittery at POP Allston— but he needs your help! The selections have been narrowed down to a list of 16, which will be held up for a series of bracketed votes by you, the public. The first round of voting closes tonight, so do your civic duty and make your vote heard!
(On a side note, if I may inject a bit of personal politicking: Let’s Scare Jessica to Death is an immensely chilling (if incredibly ‘70s) spookfest, and criminally underseen to boot. While it may not be the flashiest or best-known candidate, it has the Hassle’s endorsement, and deserves your vote. Hell, even if it doesn’t win, you should go out of your way to see it. Because damn.)
