Diva Cup is the best new band in Cleveland. Diva Cup is soon to release their first 7”, Overflow, on Saucepan Records and Minimal Care, which is geared to be at the top of numerous year-end-top-10s – or maybe just mine, who knows. Diva Cup is a band you should be listening to. By now you should have already played the embedded tracks, so the ramblings to follow will probably be unnecessary, but what the hell. The sound of Diva Cup is an unholy blend of ultra-scuzz noise rock, snotty punk, and hardcore. The crunch of the recordings, and the piercing, tinny blasts of guitar feedback make this 7” good for pairing with the last Rectal Hygienics LP. Tracks barrel ahead full speed, stuffed with blown out to oblivion riffs and what sound like mosh parts stuffed with fireworks, every so often broken up by mid-tempo snot respites. Vocals are howled, or rasped, and do their vary best to match the cacophony and tonal qualities of the rest of the music. Absolutely essential.
I’m not sure when physical copies of Overflow will be available, but until then you can devote all your waking hours to tracking down the tape they had on their tour with fellow Cleveland cretins, Rubber Mate.
