Digital Prisoners of War have offered up a warm and relatable bit of summer pop for us in their new video for “Béla Bar Talk.” After all, who among us hasn’t had the urge to sidle up to the bar, order a couple glasses of wine or a Del’s Shandy and discuss the finer points of Hungarian classical music?
DigiPOW is the brainchild of longtime local fixture Supriya Gunda. You’ve probably seen her playing bass or singing in any number of groups, but under this new guise she’s picked up the guitar. While her unusual thumbed strumming style may be a giveaway that she was initially a bassist, the thick, fuzzy Jaguar tone she employs here is deeply satisfying. The video, by Brendan McKnight, keeps its focus mainly on Supriya and some gorgeous coastal vistas, along with the occasional creepy, withered hand to keep things a bit mysterious.
If you need a little more DigiPOW in your life, you’ll have two opportunities to catch the live show in August: first at HI Hotel Boston on the 11th, and second on a top-to-bottom KILLER bill at the Middle East on the 11th with returning hometown heroine Colleen Green, Mannequin Pussy, IAN, and Ursula. Definitely not to be missed.
“Béla Bar Talk.” is on Digital Prisoners of War’s EP Casually Defying Physics, which is available on their bandcamp.
