New wave! Punk! Post-punk! Riot grrrl! A dichotomous key of musical genres, were it to exist, would show just how closely related all of these music families are– though they’ve all launched their own scenes, they’re also all descended from good, old-fashioned rock ‘n’ roll. But few bands are able to as effortlessly combine these musical categories as Boston’s (!) Dame, which defies genre only because it combines the best parts of so many: new wave synths, blistering punk bass and drum lines, the brooding paranoia of post-punk, and the vocal femme fervor of riot grrrl. Damn.
This band is tight as hell, and though I could keep writing about them, you’re better off checking out their September release, Charm School, streaming below via Bandcamp.
