I’m going to review this whole record soon enough, but I haven’t gotten there yet. DAMAGED BUG is John Dwyer (man w/ musical midas touch: LOAD RECORDS’ noise/scuzz rock weirdos PINK AND BROWN, garage rock scuzzers COACHWHIPS, and currently San Francisco’s longstanding garage pop masters THEE OH SEES) going electronic experimental groove and electronic pop. And I think it’s fairly great. Here’s a stream of an icier synth pop tune called “Photograph” from DB’s album HUBBA BUBBA. Try this on and I’ll be back later, but as far as I’m concerned Dwyer’s twisted up pop vision is shining and clear in this move from his comfort zone. In fact despite the instrumentation, this feels like a more personal, out of the bedroom kind of project than his other stuff. Some serious, and fun minimal electronic grooves found on this recent record out on Dwyer’s own constant winner of a record label, CASTLE FACE RECORDS.
