CREEPOID – SUNDAY

by

Some of us have been waiting a while to hear new stuff from Philly 4-piece Creepoid. 2012’s Horse Heaven is a mysterious excursion into melancholic and vaguely folk-ish rock, channeling Mazzy Star, Neil Young, and even the noisier work of the oft-overlooked Starflyer 59. Recently, the world has seen a flurry of activity from the primarily insular band of friends including a brand new eponymous LP out on No Idea slated for March 4th. Creepoid fans are rejoicing.

Earlier this year, Creepoid released a dreamy slow-motion video of the blissed-out “Sunday.” There’s a sunday-morning just-woke-up feeling to the relaxed pillow-y haze of the track, offset by the pain and desperation of the lyrics. This blissful/painful emotional balance, coupled with gracefully simple instrumentation, is what makes Creepoid so affecting and unique.

BONUS: Recently, Creepoid released the (downloadable) “Baptism”, offering a sludgy Pixies-esque romp that starts off assertive and slows down to a narcotic crawl as singer/guitarist Sean Miller sighs, his vocals slightly distorted to match the warm breakup of fuzzed-out guitars. Judging from these two tracks, Creepoid promises to be an impressive follow-up to the already excellent Horse Heaven. Look forward to a review from Yours Truly on this here Hassle in the coming weeks.
