The experience of listening to Couples Counseling‘s latest single reminds me of listening to some of the odder electronic sounds of the ’60s/’70s (think Joe Meek/Bruce Haack except with robots and aliens replaced by . . . well, I have no idea what lyrics are about here as vocals are intentionally distorted/undecipherable).

A strange birthchild of Motown/doo-wop and crackly experimental music, “Sad Choir” is balancing on the edge of being inaccessible but somehow it always retains just enough melody not to turn off the uninitiated.
