San Francisco has produced so many good rock bands lately– especially of the psychedelic ilk– that it’s almost become a cliche. Almost, that is, if rising rents weren’t forcing many of the city’s best artists south to LA. Anyhow, add Cool Ghouls to your list of really good bands from San Fran, and listen to “Sundial” if you need a reason to do so. “Sundial”– off the band’s forthcoming full-length, Animal Races (via Empty Cellar Records)– is a sunny, shimmering psych rock tune. A perfect summer jam, “Sundial” also nods gently to the down-to-earth folk-rock of Kelley Stoltz, who recorded the album.
