So if you’re going to a Project X party and want actually good dance music, you should check out Cold Shower’s newest release. Their LP Matter of Choice was released via Dais Records on August 28. The native Californian band formed in 2010, and this is their second album.
I mention the Project X party because this band makes me feel like I’m in the middle of a series of dance party montages, maybe in a big warehouse with a lot of lights. Putting makeup on and pre-gaming to “Ceasefire”, slow motion jumping up and down to “Only Human” with a bunch of black lights distorting the scene, and then driving home with a bunch of people leaning out the windows on a summer night to “Plantlife”, (Check out the music video here.) Maybe even getting lucky to “Whatever You Want”, maybe waking up hungover to “Undone”.
The futuristic synth pop sets the scene for anytime between the 80s and now. Cold Showers has come through with a shoegaze-y, post-punk soundtrack for an entire night of fun, and also what comes the morning after.
