CLOUD NOTHINGS – HERE AND NOWHERE ELSE

by

Cloud Nothings have released an explosion of an album, a powerful force that tumbles furiously along for near forty minutes without a single moment of lull. Digging deeper into the thick, raw sound they truly found on their last release, Attack on Memory, the album has a huge, relentless intensity. Singer Dylan Baldi fully embraces the grittiness in his distinctive voice, pushing it further than ever before with moments that verge on manic growls and screams. The entire album is fast-paced, filled with rumbling bass lines and quick chopping distorted guitar riffs. Though opting for thick layers of distortion on songs like “Psychic Trauma”, there are moments that while still frantic are also melodic and rhythmic. The guitar mirrors the vocals and lyrics, escalating the song into full angry chaos. This deliberate, intelligent instrumentation is found throughout the album, demonstrating how the band puts a great deal of thought behind the energy and force of their rambunctious punk sound.  When Baldi sings ‘it starts right now’ on the triumphant single “I’m Not Part of Me”, he means it – this album is just the beginning for a band who will continue to make some of the smartest and most earnest psych rock around.

Cloud Nothings find their home on the diverse Carpark Records, which also houses loopy experimental artists like Dan Deacon and grunge powerhouses like Speedy Ortiz. Here and Nowhere Else is out now.
