House music. I’ve listened to some Ron Hardy and Frankie Knuckles, original Chicago, those dudes are really fun to listen to. Just total party. Weird how it’s like, all about Tiësto now, and Guetta. Seems like England’s HEATSICK really pulls from the original Chicago dudes’ DIY endless party thing and goes off from there. This latest 12″, DEVIATION, is just super pretty, simple house, grooves, summer jams. Really simple, it’s apparently made on one Casio, maybe another shitty drum machine. That bareness is not even used as a lo-fi cipher here, because it’s easily forgotten with the extent of the groove achieved. There’s quite a lot of dub here; I also heard someone namedrop Fela in relation to this record. It’s super fun in the way that dub and Fela usually are. But also really shimmering, colorful, expansive, psychedelic, outdoor, sweaty. Would definitely jam some Red Stripe to this. Out now on the awesome PAN Records.
