With a moniker this playful, one could expect to see DEER LEAP sharing a stage with The Wiggles. Alas, despite how revolutionary a performance that would be, DEER LEAP’s complex and progressive stargaze sound might kill any appetite for fruit salad. They sound like their native lakeside New Hampshire in the midst of a meteor storm, lush washed-out cadences dotted with bursts of fire that dance loudly along the shore. I guess you could call it post-rock, but what does that even mean? DEER LEAP throw out the math-rawk elements of progressive indie and bring on that nostalgic, emotional, Hawthorne Heights-esque croon, but thankfully without the accompanying mascara. They are getting set to release their first LP, “Here. Home.”, possibly through friends Topshelf Records (who released a split LP featuring DEER LEAP and The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am Not Afraid To Die), and the two teaser tunes on SoundCloud are a sugary-sweet preview of atmospheric thrashings to come. And don’t dare miss them on September 1 at ALS Fest II!
