Fresh Stream, Upcoming Boston Hassle Shows

CHALAQUE – HELDERBERG 7″

by

Outsider psychedelia lands in JP tonight in the form of the UK’s CHALAQUE. Manchester’s Nick Mitchell is the guitarist behind the flailing guitar weirdness that flows forth here. Going solo, or playing off one or two others, Mitchell’s CHALAQUE is a swirling cacophony of cosmic, jittery distorto-phrasings colliding with one another; an improvisatory quilt of shimmering ugliness that will probably largely repulse, but for the right listener (me? you?) contains special ear worm qualities. I’m definitely into Mitchell’s approach. One of his latest offerings is something called the HELDERBERG 7″, recorded in upstate NY early 2013. Two songs, neither too long and both absolutely coming across as the most twisted and psychedelic sections of the most ripping solo from your worst nightmare/ favorite psychedelic record. If you’re not careful you may just jump off a building listening to this stuff. The HELDERBERG 7″ seems self-released, grab it from the CHALAQUE bandcamp. The latest recordings/ ear flagellation from Mitchell, collected under the title SWITCHING CENTER, comes out mid-May via GOLDEN LAB RECORDINGS.

CHALAQUE plays a Boston Hassle show tonight, 4/11, in JP w/ JOOKLA DUO + BILL NACE, MOSHI MOSHI I AM THE DECIDER, and PAD THAI DRUG MONEY. If you’d like to know more hit us up : [email protected]
