CHAIN CULT – DEMO

by

One of the first new releases to come through my speakers in 2018 was this demo from Greek punks Chain Cult. The self-released cassette consists of six tracks of post-punk with a slight pop punk tinge to the vocals. There’s lots of Arctic Flowers in the sound, but without the gloom – and with more idiosyncratic riffs. The vocals have hints of NoFX, but snottier and without that band’s insipidness. Chain Cult’s sound also has plenty of late 70s punk influence thrown in for good measure. Regardless, this demo is catchy as all hell; once the band locks into a groove the songs are easy to get lost in, swirling with but never drowning in reverb. For a demo, this is impressively assured. Chain Cult would make a strong follow-up to Boston fan favorites like Dame and Exit Order. Hopefully we’ll see an East Coast tour some time in 2018. Highly recommended.
