CCTV are a punk band from Indiana featuring members of Coneheads, and sound essentially the same, with the key difference — and improvement — being the female vocals. The band plays a synthed-out brand of Devo-style punk that borders on post-punk, with strong poppy guitar lines bordering on jangly at times. This is an essential record for fans of some of the artier punk coming out of San Francisco and the southwest in the 80s, like Pre Fix, or snotty and angular punk like The Dishrags. While all four tracks are strong, ”Paranoia” is the highlight of the EP and comes across as a synthpunk version of Death’s “Freakin Out.” The track is the best evidence of strength of CCTV when their tracks are more synth heavy. While copies of the first press are long sold out, copies of the second press of this Lumpy Records gem should still be kicking around in various distros across the internet.
