CAROLINE SAYS – 50,000,000 ELVIS FANS CAN’T BE WRONG

by

Summer is still in full swing on Austin-based Caroline Says’ album “50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can’t Be Wrong.” With a languid surf-rock guitar, lush vocals and a finale of chirping crickets on full blast, the songs hearken back to a season now past.

Frontwoman Caroline Sallee told Impose Magazine she wrote and recorded the album after graduating college when she lived with her parents in Alabama. While working long days at a grocery store, her thoughts would drift and she would dream up the lulling melodies that would later be recorded in her parents’ basement. That hazy quality that comes from basking in the sun too long is persistent throughout the short and sweet, under-30-minute album. “God Knows,”, a satisfyingly simple track filled with echoes, and “Gravy Dayz,” a song propelled by a driving melody and roaming vocals, mark two of the record’s high points in markedly different ways.

Although cassettes are no longer available from Happenin Records or Noumenal Loom Records, the album can still be streamed.
