CALL SUPER – SUZI ECTO

by

There are little trapdoors all over the internet. They open up without intention. You, me, the aimless, wandering consumer; we want this surprising experience.

Call Super recently gave me this sensation, and I am very grateful. I knew very little about Houndstooth (now, they have my heart, especially after signing digital crush 18+). When the in-house label for fabric announced a new album of intelligent electronic music, I dutifully pressed play on “Sulu Sekou”, and enjoyed it. Enough. It was fine. Ambient experimental techno stuff. Easy to pass on.

It wasn’t until I had listened to Suzi Ecto, Call Super’s debut full-length, a few listens that I realized its potent and intelligent approach to the not quite dance music that is fairly popular in these digital days. Berlin resident JR Seaton has made a fantastic disc here, one for the couch or the bed, for headphones, glossy eyes, for cars driving through the city at night. You could, possibly, dance to it; but its fires burn chill. Enjoy “Sulu Sekou” below, but please, give it time. Get the full-length here.
