Brizbomb — 1401

by

BRIZBOMB is the “one man, one rack” progenitor of otherworldly electronic audio-visual copulations. His live performances blend thick ambient drones with a rainbow-colored assault of pupil-dilating projections, filling rooms with a spine-tingling alien presence from the interstices of electronic music. Watch this interview to hear the man behind the drones, Matt Brislawn, describe his epic synth rack way better than I can, and here’s a nifty visual representation of how it evolved between 2005 and 2012.

Brizbomb’s recent LP 1401 may lack the visual side of things that helps make his live work so intense, but it’s still a compelling listen. Its deep drones are particularly minimal, going on with little or no variation for extended lengths of time, leaving you to bask in their tonal awe and heady atmosphere. That said, the subtle, sometimes barely audible shifts and flourishes that appear lend an amorphous, organic vitality.

You can hear track samples from 1401 on Brizbomb’s website. To order a copy, head over to Fabrica’s online store.
