You can find odd comfort in the knowing that garage rock has fully infected seemingly every crevice of our great nation– from the docks of Boston to the sandy beaches of SoCal, it has now become ubiquitous. The Brainstems are helping spread the disease under an arch’s shadow in St. Louis, MO with their brand of sweaty, grimy, and punky garage. Cold Sweatin’ (Peace Bath) is the latest offering from this prolific group. Brash, fast, sometimes barely comprehensible, and catchingly catchy, the five tracks on Cold Sweatin’ are an easy listen for us fuzzophiles. And combined with a touch of new wave– like the cutting guitars on “Onion Rings”, bass lines with a life of their own (“Holy Ghost”) and a certain air of don’t-fuck-with-me in the vocals– Cold Sweatin’ is, well, sick.
