Black Dice – Big Deal

by

Always amazing to hear from contagious pioneering rhythmic noise freaks BLACK DICE. The Hassle’s been honored to put on a number of shows for them over the years and all in all they’ve been a very important band to our Hassle universe. In 2016 I believe that one of the Copeland Bros. (from Maine no doubt) is over in Europe, so I’m not sure that we’ll be getting to see them play live anytime soon, but they have given us a new EP for keeping their sounds near to our hearts and minds.

Out on the stellar left field techno label L.I.E.S. (which ERIC COPELAND has previously recorded for) this new 12″, BIG DEAL, features two tracks. Thanks to the these internets I have gotten my hands on one of the tracks, also called “Big Deal.” It’s a bombastic electro-guitar concoction ripe for wasted freaky types to swish their bodies to. The beats and riffs are big and direct, practically cartoonish; the kind of stuff that BLACK DICE has been spurting for years now. Weird funk, with various unintelligible-isms splattered all across the top of the thing. It’s pretty infectious despite all the goop piled on this thing, and that there is the BLACK DICE spesh-ial-ity. Who knows when more will come down the wobbly, weird tracks that these guys travel upon. Savor it. Nod ya head.
