Submitted for your approval: Black Beach, the Middleboro-based rock and roll threesome who will be kicking off this year’s New England Underground Music Festival by playing the inaugural set of day one in oh… a mere three hours’ time!
This two-song demo, recorded with help from Hadden Stemp of the venerable New Highway Hymnal, is as great a reason as any that you’ll find to show up early tonight. First up is the short and sweet Ego Death Ritual, a stomping garage rock howler with nods to early Killed By Death punk as heard through the filter of some grungy pacific northwest ninetiesisms. But this is only a teaser for the eponymous The Youth Is Out There, a longer, messier excursion in post-Stooges antagonism and screaming noise rock squalls that builds to a truly massive climax. If the rest of their set can match the intensity of these two tracks, they’ll be one of the weekend’s standout performances for sure. So don’t waste time. Get down to Cuisine En Locale as early as possible this eveneing and prepare to have your little minds blown wide open.
The Youth is Out There is available for free download at bandcamp. Black Beach are playing live today at Cuisine En Locale.
