You’re always ready for the ‘fuck the cops’ punk trope. But less often is the punk space attentive enough to go beyond yelling about civil trespass and actually call out the police for racist and totalitarian ideologies. When the clearest two words on a tape are “Tamir Rice”, you have a punk band that’s using an unused space to yell about a whole lot more than usual. Unsigned and Boston based, Battery March wants to start something.

The anecdotal nature of their songs gives Battery March an Irish pub-rock feel, but clearly they’re here to talk about the issues plaguing America. The tape is focused on calling out fucked up shit by name, from Massachusetts evidence tamperer Annie Dookhan to Ronald Ritchie, the Ohio Walmart shopper who called 911 on John Crawford III for holding a BB gun sold off the store’s shelves. It’s about time a punk band started looking out for victims other than themselves. The guys of Battery March do it without turning their heads to see who’s watching.
