Fresh Stream

As you sweat yourself to sleep on a steamy Boston evening in July, perhaps the following will comfort you: It’s winter in Australia. People are wearing jackets there right now, and singing about warm beaches in a different hemisphere. They’re people — and bands — like Ausmuteants, the raw, synthy post-punk revivalists who keep the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll alive with tracks like “Echo Beach.” It’s a brash, bold throwback that’s a gritty cover of the comparatively tame Martha and the Muffins 1980 original. Compare and contrast the two and decide which version of the song is your fave — mine’s the Ausmuteants version. “Echo Beach” is from the Mates Rate 7″ from HoZac released earlier this year. Stream it below.
