One of the great singer/songwriters going today, ANGEL OLSEN just put out another record, her third. BURN YOUR FIRE FOR NO WITNESS is what it is called, and the fine people at JAGJAGUWAR RECORDS have released it. OLSEN plays with folk rock and country rock notions with a natural wonderful abandon that lets you know that she knows all about what she’s doing. She’s totally in control of her voice, and her shimmering guitar, and the winding and wonderful melodies that she wraps us the listener right up into. I loved her last record HALFWAY HOME, and now I have a new record to love from this Chicagoan. “Hi-Five” is the second video from BURN YOUR FIRE FOR NO WITNESS which was just released last week. OLSEN’s ability to bring so much country into her music, whilst maintaining its complete modernity is perhaps her biggest gift. ROY ORBISON haunts this song, but that’s a good thing, and haunting is what ROY ORBISON does best isn’t it? The song is a country folk number shambling along, commanded by the voice of ANGEL, and accompanied by a most badass tremolo laden fuzz guitar. The song’s video was directed by ZIA ANGER and it features our singer moving through various 60s and 70s music television program dance moves. Great video, and a super cool song from one of my going favorites, ANGEL OLSEN.
