Aneurysm – Veronica

by

Filth can be so appealing. Just ask John Waters. There’s something about this in music, the feeling of giving into nihilistic impulses like handing your keys to a mad man while in the passenger’s seat that is liberating. For those that want this kind of thrill Aneurysm’s Veronica is what you should be playing on that manic road trip. The title track is a piledriver with a relentless digging rhythm that revels in chaos and abandon like prime Jesus Lizard. When the track briefly slows down the bent notes become stomach churning like a car spinning out of control in a giant swoop. Lyrics may be low in the mix here but that doesn’t matter because it just adds to that general attitude of derangement and detachment. I don’t now if “Dio, Priest, Maiden” is in favor or not of those respected bands but it’s delivered with such conviction that I’m inclined to agree either way. This unhinged 5 piece Boston band delivers a kick to the head that reminds you of the fun in losing control.
