In New England underground circles this has to be considered a MAMMOTH release. Two of the region’s most far out “noise” performers (id m from Portland, ME, and Andrea from Salem, MA) doing their thing in tandem. id m theftable is praised around the world for his sound art/ dadaist vocal approach that weaves together noise, voice gymnastics, and various methodologies of sound collage. Andrea Pensado is a renowned noise artist, lauded for her harsh solo voice/noise activity (sometimes involving a ventriloquist doll) as well as her ensemble collaborations, including her stunning work with Los Condenados. And here we finally have them together ON RECORD!
This self titled release (that’s… Andrea Pensado + id m theftable, in case you haven’t been paying attention) finds the pair haunting Portland, ME spaces on two different evenings for around 20 minutes. The longer form approach suits both performers, allowing them to really stretch it out. Crying, daffy duck sounds, cancer causing electronics, samples more warped than one can usually imagine, divine clatter, dread, fear, AND loathing are all present and accounted for and delivered with a sense of wonder and amazement that, while perhaps off-putting to many, is also uplifting if you happen to be of a certain make up. Put this in your ear freak!
GET THIS! This ridiculously amazing duo plays TONIGHT (3/14) @ Dorchester Art Project!
id m theft able is such a treasured member of our community. A visual artist,a wonderful writer, both insightful and heartfelt.
Last year he gave clever clues as to where we could find tapes of his work. He hid them all over the city.
He’s one of those people who brings some relief, some comfort in knowing that he and people like him are out in the world.
I know very little about Noise so can’t review that but I’m very glad you did.
