In recent years, Youth Attack has become a record label to release music by The Repos, Denver bands, and project bands from a small cadre of regulars. These projects bands have sporadically produced fantastic EPs and LPs, Veins for example, and Absolute Power is no different. The band, comprised of Youth Attack head Mark McCoy along with two members of Aerosols and two members of Suburbanite, plays like a cleaner, heavier version of what you’d expect from a Youth Attack band but with stronger riffs and more dynamic songwriting than usual. Feedback-y intros, breakdowns, tempo changes, and a pummeling drum beat all gone through at breakneck speed. Think something along the lines of a heavier Failures with more agonized vocals. Worth jamming for pedigree alone, if you’ve ever liked the music Youth Attack has release over the last eight, ten years, this is probably their most essential record in years. If you’re looking to grab a copy, act quick. These will be gone soon.
