AARON DILLOWAY & JASON LESCALLEET – “WESTERN NEST”

by

Anyone with an ear to the ground and a heart sopping with static has been waiting impatiently for Aaron Dilloway and Jason Lescalleet to meet again. Their previous outings include the groud-melting Grapes and Snakes, issued by PAN/Hanson waaaay back in 2012, and Building a Nest on Hanson in 2013. I am going to forsake journalistic objectivity here – Grapes and Snakes fucking ruled, I still listen to it constantly, and I think you should check it out if you haven’t heard it.

But we aren’t living in the past here – humans only have a hundred more years to play with tape loops anyway. Perhaps the constraints of a failing planet forced Dilloway and Lescalleet to join together again, but whatever the reason, it sure is happening. Glistening Examples (Lescalleet’s label) has announced a forthcoming (out 12/14, it seems) LP, Popeth, featuring the two in tandem.

Our first taste of the disc is the eleven minute “Western Nest”. Listeners are immediately swept into a field of frequencies, pulses, and punishments, the sound of two of noise’s finest communicating through a higher, well-developed language, unique to the two of them but somehow understood by both. The rhythmic onslaught at the track’s terminus is enough to make your skin crawl with excitement.

Stream “Western Nest” below and pre-order Popeth, which features gorgeous artwork by Australian artist/novelist Matthew Revert, right here.
