While surveying the history of Aryans and “Aryanism” — both as ethnographic fact and as fanatical perversions of myth-hungry demagogues — prolific German documentarian (and actress, and television host) Mo Asumang confronts notorious racists, interviews real-life, mild-mannered Aryans, and sets various records straight. Awarded the Öngören Prize for Democracy and Human Rights in March 2014, THE ARYANS transcends its subject’s potentially lurid fascination (though it satisfies on that front as well), rooting out reality from fantasy while respecting the primal power of the imago.
