One of the greatest joys I’ve ever experienced was watching my first martial arts film. I think it was RUSH HOUR 2 (2001). Don’t laugh, read on. Since 2006, the Asian Community Development Corporation has presented FREE, outdoor screenings of Kung Fu and classic Chinese films – all just a minute from the iconic Chinatown Gate. This month, three films will screen nightly at 7:30PM or dusk, preceded by a martial arts demonstration at 6:30PM. First, it’s FEARLESS HYENA (1979), directed by and starring the lovable Jackie Chan, on 9/12. Next, on 9/13, catch THE WOMAN KNIGHT OF MIRROR LAKE (2011) – the biographical story of feminist revolutionary Qiu Jin. Finally, on 9/14, don’t miss COME DRINK WITH ME (1966) – actress Cheng Pei Pei kicks butt in one of the best films to come out of Hong Kong. Take the Orange Line to Chinatown, have a dope dinner, and catch a movie under the stars.
