(2/2) NO REST FOR THE BRAVE (2003) DIR. ALAIN GUIRAUDIE @HFA

by

In this surreal black comedy, a young man has a prophetic dream that tells him the next time he wakes up he will die. The HFA describes the character as “a male Alice who’s fallen down a wormhole, not chasing a White Rabbit but running from death, the little death of the workaday world.” What follows is a strange amalgamation of events that reminds the viewer of the works of Luis Buñuel. NO REST FOR THE BRAVE showcases a world of imagination, working class young people, and even some very obviously shady gangsters. Deeply touching, gritty, and fantastical – this movie shows that the spirit of French New Wave has trickled down into modern French cinema.

Director Alain Guiraudie (also an actor and writer) will appear in-person at this screening. Come see the man whose first film, a short entitled HEROES NEVER DIE (1990), earned the praise of Jean-Luc Goddard as the “Best Film at the Festival de Cannes.”
