(11/7 & 11/8) HIGHLANDER (1986) DIR. RUSSELL MULCAHY @COOLIDGE

by

Break out your katana and get ready for lightning, decapitations and a kick ass Queen soundtrack. HIGHLANDER, the little 1986 cult movie from Russell Mulcahy that became a surprise franchise spawning sequels and a TV series, is coming to the Coolidge Corner for all to behold its immortal 35mm glory. Christopher Lambert plays sword wielding protagonist Connor MacLeod, a loner with a weird accent who also happens to be a Scotsman over 400 years old, part of a race of beings who are unable to die, except when their heads are chopped off, accidentally or otherwise. He wanders the Earth dueling others of his race until there is only one, which includes a 7 foot tall former knight who’s cutting off heads all over New York City in addition to just being a serious douchebag (Clancy Brown in what looks to be an over the top version of his character in THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION). Sean Connery also co-stars as Ramirez, a wily immortal who also happens to be the only person actually from Scotland in the movie. Check it out. Don’t you want to see who becomes master of the universe?
