43 films over 13 days in a panoply of locations – including the Brattle, Coolidge Corner, the MFA, and West Newton Cinema – this year’s BJFF celebrates a cinema of diaspora, testifying once again to the plurality of Judaisms, from the ultra-orthodox to the frankly secular, that have taken root and found unique expression in diverse locations around the world. From New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft’s perhaps eyebrow-raisingly odd endeavor to found a professional football league in Israel (TOUCHDOWN ISRAEL) to a road trip that forces a Greek atheist and his Hasidic son (who also raps) to confront their divisions as they investigate their family’s fate in the Holocaust (MAGIC MEN), the BJFF presents a rich assortment of genres and styles, with many an Ophir (the Israeli Academy Award) winner or nominee in the mix. Check out the website for a full schedule and descriptions of all the films.
