(10/31-11/16) POLISH FILM FESTIVAL @ARTSEMERSON

by

This past spring the Brattle hosted Martin Scorsese’s touring mini-festival, Masterpieces of Polish Cinema (which we covered here). Maybe you missed it altogether. Probably, you missed some of it (I know I did). If you somehow managed to catch the whole thing, I expect you’re the kind of obsessive who might want to do it all over again. The point is this: ArtsEmerson is putting on a complementary program of Polish films, overlapping with Scorsese’s selections but not officially under his auspices, over the next couple of weeks (its actual kick-off was on Halloween), and we are once again — sooner than we had any right to expect — blessed with big-screen, often beautifully restored 35mm presentations of such, well, masterpieces of Polish cinema as Krzysztof Zanussi’s ILLUMINATION (1972), Wojciech Has’ THE HOURGLASS SANATORIUM (1973), and several key works by Andrzej Wajda, including the American premiere of his latest work, THE POSSESSED YEARS LATER (2013). So don’t blow it this time, even if you didn’t blow it last time either.
