Know Yr Boston History – Pugsley Munion

by

Formed in the Central MA factory hinterlands of Leominster, Pugsley Munion only recorded one LP, and played a paltry handful of dates before calling it quits. While not the most groundbreaking record, (it is certainly trapped in it’s English influenced blues-rock era) P-Munion has some worthy cuts to put up against anything in the “Nuggets” canon. It’s 4 bar garage clod is enjoyable and endearing all at once, and since they funded the NYC recording sessions with their hard-earned factory wages, it harkens back to the very first notions of DIY.
They played for a time, then a brief hiatus, when their bass player was drafted for the war in Veitnam, and picked things back up after his return, only to call it quits sometime in the mid-70’s.
It’s worth noting, that drummer Ed Kelly is none other than the father of monster drummer Matt Kelly of the Dropkick Murphy’s.
