Wume — “Ostinaut”

by

Wume has got it going on, in that Baltimore (via Chicago) style that I DO love!! We at the Hassle have been privileged to have these denizens of that great Atlantic coast city on a bill or two or three over the years, and they never fail to amaze and hypnotize with their pulsating electronic vibrations. Just a duo, WUME creates a sound big enough to fill any room that you might put them in (this will be put to the test as they do opening duties at Brighton Music Hall in a couple weeks . . . link below). The band has a new album called MAINTAIN out on Baltimore’s own fantastic Ehse Records, and it is filled to the brim with the electronic, polyrhythmic explorations that are the ever evolving hallmark of these two, Albert Schatz and April Camlin. Groovy and kraut-y, WUME never lets it get dull, utilizing unusual arrangements that expand and contract in slow waves all as the beat. goes. on. The video for Maintain’s “Ostinaut” does a colorful dance of abstraction in accompanying the bouncing, bubbling, and shimmering synth beat of the tune. Technicolor sound for getting high to, or simply getting lost amidst in whatever way you wish. Don’t miss the chance to see these two live (where the magic really happens). Video by Andy Ortmann.
